Spotify App Coming To Xbox One Wireless Controller
Spotify, which just hit over 60 million users, has long been available on Sony's PS4. Update, 10:30 a.m. PT: Adds that the Spotify app is now available on the Xbox One. If a dedicated Spotify app does become available on the Xbox One, it will be more than two years after the platform launched on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Hopefully the offering is available before the release of Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One X console. Spotify is planning to release an Xbox One app soon. Pictures of Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) testing a Spotify app for Xbox One were spotted on Reddit earlier this week, fuelling. Spotify has been available on the PlayStation 3 and 4 for over two years, but now, it finally looks to be coming to the Xbox One.Speculation fuelled earlier this week when photos of Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) testing a Spotify app surfaced on Reddit. Xbox One players are reporting that the Spotify app is not working because it doesn’t play any songs. In addition, few Xbox One users are reporting that the Spotify app is not working due to it.
Until now, if gamers wanted to play games while listening to their favorite music on Spotify they needed to be PlayStation 4 owners. However, that will soon be changing for Xbox One owners, as the last few days have seen reports of Microsoft’s Major Nelson testing a Spotify app on the console, along with confirmation from anonymous sources. But now Microsoft itself has spilled the beans with their weekly Xbox news video showing Spotify running on an Xbox One.
During the latest episode of “this week on Xbox,” host Major Nelson, or Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hyrb, covers news announcements like new controllers and trailers for upcoming games. Towards the very end of the video, Nelson talks about how to set an image as the console’s wallpaper, and at the 9-minute mark the Spotify app can be seen running in the bottom left of the Xbox One Guide menu.

The shot was spotted by Reddit users, and the video doesn’t make any direct mention of the Spotify app, so we’re still waiting on an official launch date. However, it looks like the PS4’s two-year exclusivity deal with the world’s largest music streaming service will soon be over.
Back in June Spotify made its debut on the Windows Store, but because it wasn’t a Universal Windows App it was limited to Windows 10 desktops and unable to run on the Xbox One. It’s not clear if their will eventually be a Universal Windows version of Spotify, with the Xbox One app being a quick-fix solution, but Xbox One gamers will surely be glad the wait is over.
